Carson Helicopters partners with Cobham
Carson Helicopters and Cobham have announced a partnership to provide an advanced suite of avionics for Sikorsky S-61, S-76 and UH-60 derivative helicopter retrofits. The new glass cockpit features large-format synthetic vision flight displays, advanced flight management capability, integrated hazard alerting (terrain, traffic and weather), dual audio/radio control units, dual VHF navigation and communication radios, dual automatic direction finding systems, a distance measuring system, an integrated audio/radio management unit, an aft-cabin audio control system, and an optional mission computer and display system. Other features include geo-referenced hover vector display and a digital engine monitoring and crew alerting system with automatic, context-sensitive checklists for adnormal procedures.
Tail Rotor Blade - COMING 2011
Carson’s newly designed composite tail rotor blades will add up to 300 lbs. of lift to the main rotor system by requiring less power to operate.
New Engines & Autopilot for the S61
Carson is testing the GE T58-16 engines which will replace the T58-140 engines, increasing the horsepower from 1500 to 1870. This increase in horsepower will improve the performance of the S61 when flying at higher altitudes and temperatures. Carson will also be test flying a new auto pilot which will have the latest technology hardware.
